Pretty happy with my Fourth of July shots

Just like the founding fathers, we spent all day trying to figure out what we were going to do but next thing you know it is happening and you have to rush to find a good spot for the show. In fact we found a perfect spot right along the river. We stayed there for a while afterwards taking in the amateur fireworks and shooting off a few bottle rockets. Out of nowhere, a girl with a flaming hula-hoop appeared and that was amazing.
I thought of photographing fireworks as a crapshoot. However, I was wrong. When I started to push the abilities of my camera interesting stuff started appearing on the LCD. Switching over from my old 10D to the new 5D has really opened me up to shooting in new situations. The grain you get at around 6400 ISO is apparent and overwhelming but it still has a look to it the way fast film used to. With the old 10D any sort of noise or blur just looked like the camera was broken. Having the ability to work with distortion like that takes me back to my 35mm days as a student.
