When my new MacBookPro arrived it was destined to mostly be a desktop computer, so I wanted to set it up with an external keyboard and a second monitor. Now I had two dual screen MacBooks on the table a classic CRT monitor and two old clunky towers. To make it fit I needed some new monitor stands. They needed to be backwards, so laptops could fit snugly under them without the base getting in the way. Also they needed to be a little taller so that my laptops would not have to lean back so much. I only had a hand saw so my design only relied on the manufactured wood surfaces to be flat. However, while at the hardware store I found an incredible deal on a drill and circular saw. Both of them were made out of one board and went together real fast. I was able to use the mounts from the original monitor stands. The weight is simply counterbalanced with stacks of bricks. The arrangement is all pretty satisfying, it looks great. The new system does everything I want. I can comfortably edit and type on my fastest machine, I can directly access my files servers and I have a third, relatively fast interface, that I can edit on should the macbook pro ever get bogged down rendering. The best part is, both MacBooks can quickly break off to travel and come back together like Voltron.
